Stampede Acquire All-Star Forward Anthoine from Chicago Print E-mail

Sioux Falls, SD—The Sioux Falls Stampede announced they have acquired All-Star forward Mark Anthoine (Ann-thoin) from the Chicago Steel in exchange for affiliate forward Charlie O’Connor.

Anthoine was second on the Steel in scoring with 39 points in 39 games. He led the team in goals scored with 21 and was tied for second in assists with 18. The Lewiston, ME native is in his third year in the USHL and has already committed to the University of Maine for the 2010-11 season. He recorded 28 points (10g, 18a) in 60 games last season for the Steel.

The 6-foot-0, 190-pound left winger played for the East Division at the 2010 USHL All-Star Game in Indiana in January.  He helped set up the game winner in the East Division’s 5-4 overtime victory over the West.

Anthoine is tied for the league lead with four shorthanded goals and is second overall with 171 shots on goal. He recorded an assist Friday night in Chicago’s 5-2 loss to Cedar Rapids.

O’Connor was the Herd’s third round selection during the 2009 Futures Draft. He is currently the leading scorer for Lake Forest Academy in the Midwest Prep League. The Chicago native has 21 points (8g, 13a) in 13 games.

To make room on the roster, the Stampede released forward George Michalke. Michalke was in his second season with the Stampede and recorded 10 points (3g, 7a) in 22 games this season. He will attend Air Force Academy this fall.

The Stampede return to action Tuesday when they travel to Lincoln to face the Stars at 7:05 PM. Fans can watch the game “live” on the B2 Networks at Buffalo Wild Wings starting at 7 PM.
