SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Grand Rapids High School hockey star Gavin Hain will be back in the Stampede lineup this weekend and for the remainder of the season.
The Grand Rapids, Minn., native skated in three games earlier this year with the Herd. He was drafted first overall by the Stampede in the 2016 USHL Phase I Draft last May and attended tryout camp in June.
His senior high school season ended in grand fashion last weekend as the Grand Rapids High Thunderhawks clinched their first Minnesota Class 2A championship since 1980 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Hain tallied a hat trick en route to a 6-3 thrashing of the Moorhead Spuds in the title game.
The University of North Dakota commit, who registered a goal in his three games with the Herd, is coming off his best high school season recording 48 points (24 goals, 24 assists) in 24 games.
Over his career, Hain played in 98 games, including playoffs, registering 127 points (62 goals, 67 assists).
He adds much needed relief for the Stampede who are banged up at the forward position.
"He's a youngster. He's the same age as Jaxon Nelson," said head coach Scott Owens. "He is going to come down and play on a regular basis to help and develop and hopefully be a big part of our team next year."
Hain will travel with the team to face the Chicago Steel tonight and Madison Capitols on Saturday and will return to the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center next Tuesday to face the Des Moines Buccaneers.
