TONIGHT’S GAME: The Stampede open a weekend series against their I-29 rivals from Fargo tonight. The Herd are a perfect 5-0-0 against the best team in the USHL, including a 4-3 shootout victory at the PREMIER Center on New Year’s Eve. These two teams will meet a total of 10 times this season.
STAMPEDE UPDATE: The Stampede are coming off tough 6-4 loss at home to Madison last Saturday night. In a back-and-forth battle the Stampede played catch up all night with the Capitols and Madison sealed it with a last second empty net goal. Kevin Conley led the way with a goal and two assists while Mitchell Mattson added a goal and an assist in the loss.
Tonight and tomorrow night are the final two home games of January for the Stampede who will spend the next two weekends on the road, playing five games in ten days. The Herd enter tonight tied for fourth place in the Western Conference, just two points behind second place Tri-City. The Herd are 7-5-4 on home ice this season.
FORCE UPDATE: Fargo has been one of the hottest teams in the USHL and only the Stampede have seemed to have their number. Throwing out their games against the Herd, the Force have gone 18-2-5 this season. Much of their success has come on the road where they post an impressive 11-2-1 record.
Last weekend, Fargo earned a weekend sweep of the Chicago Steel on home ice. Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup is the Force’s leading scorer, but likely out this weekend with an injury. Still the Force have a line of heavy scorers, including Grant Hebert who has 27 points in 30 games. Strauss Mann and Ryan Bischel have split time between the pipes to combine for an 18-7-2 mark with a 2.38 GAA and a .916 save percentage. After this weekend, Fargo will play five of their next six games at home.
