TONIGHT’S GAME: The Stampede close out their five-game road swing with a stop in the Windy City to face the Chicago Steel for the first time this season. These two teams will meet again next Saturday in Sioux Falls for their only other meeting of the year.
STAMPEDE UPDATE: The Stampede earned their 25th win of the season last night with a 2-1 shootout victory at Des Moines. Adam Dawe tallied the only goal for the Stampede in regulation, midway through the first period, but the Bucs responded with a goal of their own just over a minute later.
The Herd would skate in their 15th overtime game of the season, but neither time scored in the extra session sending the game to a shootout. The Herd had won just once in four chances in a shootout heading into the game, but goals from Cameron Burke and Kevin Conley along with two saves from Mikhail Berdin secured the extra point for the Stampede.
Berdin finished the night with 35 saves as the Stampede improved to 9-1-2 in their last 12 games. Since February, Berdin has posted a 4-1-2 record with a 2.32 GAA and a .921 save percentage.
ONE-GOAL GAMES: The Stampede’s string of one-goal games continued again last night. The Herd have played in 23 one-goal games this season, going 13-2-8.
STEEL UPDATE: The Steel are coming off a tough 6-4 loss to the Omaha Lancers last night on home ice. Since starting the season 9-2-1, the Steel have gone 11-17-4 and are 2-7-2 in their last 11 games. Despite their recent struggles, the Steel have continued to score goals. They rank second in the league in scoring, posting an average of 3.61goals per-game. On the flip side, the Steel have struggled defensively where they rank second to last in goals-against per-game, allowing 3.50 goals per-game.
