TODAY’S GAME:   The Stampede face the Sioux City Musketeers for the sixth time this season and for the final time this season in Sioux City. These two teams will meet two more times during the regular season, both in Sioux Falls. The Herd are 4-0-1 against the Musketeers this season.

STAMPEDE UPDATE:  The Stampede saw their nine-game home winning streak come to an end last night in a 3-1 loss to the Tri-City Storm. The Herd still earned a split in the weekend series with the top team in the West, having won 4-1 on Friday night.

The Stampede trailed 2-0 late in the third period before Sam Stevens deflected a shot from Matt Kessel into the net with three minutes remaining to make it a 2-1 game. The Herd pulled goaltender Alec Calvaruso for an extra attacker, but the Storm tallied an empty net goal in the final seconds to secure a 3-1 victory. The Stampede have a chance to move into a tie for second place with a win today as they travel Waterloo by just two points and Waterloo is idle tonight.

MUSKETEEERS UPDATE: The Musketeers are coming off a 3-0 victory over the U.S. Under-17 squad last night in Sioux City. Matthew Miller scored late in the first period to give Sioux City a 1-0 lead and that stayed until 12:59 of the third when Bobby Brink scored to increase their lead. The Musketeers iced the game with an empty net goal with 31 seconds remaining to earn the win. Jake Sibell stopped all 15 shots faced to earn the shutout in goal.

Sioux City enters today’s game with a three-point lead over Omaha for the sixth and final playoff spot in the West with two games in hand. The Musketeers can increase their lead for a playoff spot with Omaha off today.  

UP NEXT:  The Stampede make a long trip to Chicago on Friday when they face the Steel at 7:05 PM. Fans can catch all the action on KELO News Talk 1320-AM, 105.1-FM, 107.9-FM and The Herd return home on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17) for a 5:05 PM game against the Fargo Force.
