Herd move back into second place tie with four games to go

Sioux Falls, SD—The Stampede scored early and often in an 8-1 route of the Lincoln Stars Tuesday night at the PREMIER Center. The win gave the Stampede (36-15-7) 79 points and moved them into a second place tie with Waterloo with four games remaining in the regular season. The Stampede’s 36 wins are the most in a season by a Stampede season since the 2012-13 season when the Herd won 45 games during a 64-game schedule.

Blake Bride led the way with two goals while Andre Lee added a goal and an assist in the win. Seven different players tallied goals in the victory as the Stampede set a franchise record for most home wins in a season at the PREMIER Center with 21. Jaxson Stauber stopped 10 of 11 shots to earn the win in goal while improving to 14-8-1 on the season.

The Stampede wasted little time picking up where they left off on Saturday, scoring just 21 seconds into the contest when Cade Borchardt broke in on a 2-on-1 with Artem Ivanyuzhenkov who one-timed the puck past Lincoln goaltender Samuel Hlavaj for a 1-0 lead. The goal was Ivanyuzhenkov’s 25th of the season and 46th of his career. The Herd added to their lead at 9:29 when Blake Bride notched his 14th of the season. Jared Westcott Broke in down the left wing side and sent a pass across the ice to Bride who quickly wristed it into the upper right-hand corner of the net for a 2-0 lead. It was 3-0 just over two minutes later when Ryan Johnson tallied his seventh of the season on a wrist shot from the left circle. The Herd outshot the Stars 11-3 in the period.

Sioux Falls extended their lead in the second when Brian Chambers scored at 9:47 on a nice pass from Jared Westcott to make it a 4-0 game. The Stars would get one back, but the Herd still led 4-1 entering the final frame, outshooting the Stars 11-7 in the period.

If you thought the Stampede would take their foot off the gas pedal in the third, you would be mistaken. Andre Lee scored just 1:05 into the period when he deflected a pass from Sam Stevens in for a 5-1 advantage. The Herd added to their lead at 8:10 when Ivanyuzhenkov’s shot was stopped, but Mason Klee came in and picked up the rebound wristed it over the right shoulder of Hlavaj for a commanding 6-1 lead.

Sioux Falls went on the power play a few minutes later and Ethan Phillips got in on the fun when he scored on a beautiful tic-tac-toe play from Logan Britt and Andre Lee. Sioux Falls scored their eighth and final goal at 17:30 when Blake Bride knocked home his second of the night and 15th of the season. It also marked back-to-back two goal games from the captain.

Sioux Falls outshot the Stars 17-1 in the final period and 39-11 in the game. The Herd finished the night 1-for-3 on the power play while Lincoln was 0-for-3.

The Herd hit the road now for a long trip to Youngstown, Ohio where they will face the Phantoms on Friday and Saturday night for a weekend series.
