Stampede Players Named to Final NHL Draft Rankings

Six players, one affiliate among ranked for 2019 NHL draft

Sioux Falls, S.D. – NHL Central Scouting released its final list of 2019 NHL Draft eligible prospects on Monday and seven players, six Stampede skaters and one affiliate, were listed. 

Among those listed include defensemen (No. 33) Ryan Johnson and (No. 85) Max Crozier and forwards (No. 52) Anthony Romano, (No. 78) Ethan Phillips, (No. 109) Austen Swankler, and (No. 143) Jami Krannila. Affiliate player (No. 176) Nate Warner, currently playing for St. Cloud Cathedral in St. Cloud, Minn., was also ranked.  

The Sioux Falls Stampede have the most players ranked of current USHL skaters outside of the National Development Program. 

Johnson, a 6-foot defenseman from Irvine, Calif., tallied six goals and 19 assists in 54 games for the Herd this season. He finished the season with a team high plus/minus of 24. He is currently committed to the University of Minnesota hockey program under former Stampede head coach Bob Motzko. 

Crozier, a 6-foot-one-inch defenseman from Calgary, leads Stampede defensemen in points with 43 points (10g, 33a), including six power play goals. It is the Providence college commit's first appearance on the Central Scouting Rankings this season. 

The highest ranking forward, Romano finished the season second in points with 47 (26g, 21a), including a team high nine from the power play. He is committed to play collegiate hockey at Clarkson University. 

Phillips finished the regular season tallying 16 goals and 27 assists for 43 points in 50 games, leading the team in points per game at .86.  The Western Conference Most Valuable Player at the 2019 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game is committed to play collegiate hockey at Boston University in the fall. Phillips joined the team permanently in November after starting the season at Selects Academy. 

Swankler, a native of Huntingdon, Pa., finished the 2018-19 regular season with 12 goals and 33 assists for 45 points in 59 games. The University of Michigan recruit was also a force on the power play unit scoring seven goals. 

Krannila, a 5-foot-10-inch rookie forward from Pori, Fin., tallied 17 goals and 28 assists for 45 points in 60 games. He is committed to play collegiate hockey at St. Cloud State. 

The 2019 NHL Draft will be held June 21-22 at Rodgers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia. 

The Stampede kick off the first round of the Clark Cup Playoffs tonight against the Sioux City Musketeers at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. Puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Tickets available at any Ticketmaster outlet or the KELOLAND Box Office inside the PREMIER Center.
