"As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, the need for blood in our community intensifies. The holiday weekend is a long four days, with no opportunity to collect blood. The blood drive with the Sioux Falls Stampede continues to provide the mainstay of collections throughout the holiday weekend and saves local lives," states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. "Speaking for the holiday season in general, many people are busy with holiday activities and forget to take time to donate blood which puts a strain on the blood supply. This event provides a fun option to give prior to the holidays and impact our local patients in need in a very special way. It saves their lives.”
Donors must be at least 17 years old, 110 pounds or more and be in good general health the day of the donation. Please bring an ID with you. An individual can donate blood safely every 56 days. Community Blood Bank is the sole supplier of blood to Avera McKennan Hospital, Avera Heart Hospital, the V.A. Medical Center, Sioux Falls Surgical Hospital, Sanford Children’s and Sanford Health.
