BiteSquad Rivalry Game

The Breakdown

The Sioux Falls Stampede (3-11-2) are at the PREMIER Center tonight to take on the Fargo Force (9-5-1) for a Thanksgiving eve showdown. The Herd is coming off a split week series in Youngstown, while the Force are in the midst of a five-game win streak and sit in third place in the Western Conference.

For the Herd

The Herd fell to the Youngstown Phantoms 4-2 last Saturday night at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown, Ohio. The Phantoms put up two goals on the Herd through the first two periods before Jared Westcott took a pass from Will Dineen and danced around the goaltender for a score. Youngstown leading-scorer open the two-goal lead back up with a goal five minutes into the third period with assists going to Yusako Ando and Georgi Merkulov. Cam MacDonald responded with his first United States Hockey League goal six minutes later, assisted by Ryan Sullivan and Connor McGinnis, but it wasn’t enough as Matthew Cassidy scored an empty-net goal for the victory.

Brian Carrabes continues to lead the Stampede in points this season with 14 total from eight goals and six assists in 15 games played. Forward Tyler Coffey trails him with 11 total points from six goals and five assists. Between the pipes Grant Adams leads the team with a 2-7-2 record in 12 games played with a 3.56 goals-against average and .892 save-percentage.

Tonight Stampede fans will be greeted by a familiar face as goaltender Jaxson Stauber makes his return to Sioux Falls. He has not played a junior hockey game all season, but posted a 4-1 win over Alabama Huntsville with the Minnesota State Mavericks on Oct. 26.

The Stampede will continue the homestand with matchups against the Sioux City Musketeers on Friday night and Dubuque Fighting Saints on Saturday for Teddy Bear Toss night presented by BiteSquad.

For the Foe

The Fargo Force enter tonight’s game with a five-game win streak, defeating the Dubuque Fighting Saints, Madison Capitols twice, Des Moines Buccaneers and Lincoln Stars. The team handed Des Moines 4-3 loss last Friday and Lincoln a 5-3 loss on Saturday on the road.

Against Lincoln the Force fell behind 2-1 in the opening period of the game but scored three unanswered goals in the second and third periods to take command of the game. Lincoln would muster up another goal, however, the Force secured an empty-net goal in the closing seconds to hold off the comeback. Alex Nordstrom scored twice in the contest, while Cole Brady saved 33 of 35 shots.

The Force currently do not have a single player in the top 20 players in league scoring despite having a winning record. The team is led by Kaden Bohlsen and Lynden Breen who both have 12 points on the season. Bohlsen leads the team in goals with seven in fourteen games played. In net Brady has the made the majority of the starts, going 8-4-1 in 13 games played with a 2.72 goals-against average and .907 save-percentage.

Fargo will finish off the week at home with the Dubuque Fighting Saints this Friday.
