The Sioux Falls Stampede (9-14-3) begin the new year with back-to-back matchups with the National Team Development Program under-17 team (21-8-0) at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. The two teams meet once a year for two games. The NTDP is comprised of two teams, the under-17 and under-18 squads, that play games across the United States Hockey League with the records of both clubs counting towards the regular season standings.
The Stampede went 0-1-1 against the under-18 squad last season, with the likes of first overall NHL pick Jack Hughes, Cole Caufield and Matthew Boldy skating for the team.
The Herd holds the eighth sport on the Western Conference standings and Team USA sits in second in the Eastern Conference.
For the Herd
The Stampede are coming off a New Year’s Eve, 4-1 loss to the Des Moines Buccaneers at the PREMIER Center on Tuesday night.
The Herd earned the first goal of the game on a Brian Carrabes shot from the top of the offensive zone with a tip in front of the net by Jakub Lewandowski for his sixth of the season. The lead held from the second half of the second to six minutes into the third period as Kristof Papp tied it up for Des Moines.
Papp continued to impress as he collected his second goal of the night three minutes later to give the Buccaneers the 2-1 lead. The onslaught continued with a Joey Strada goal that beat goaltender Jaxson Stauber one-on-one after a turnover in the neutral zone. Des Moines closed out the game with an empty-net goal to complete the 4-1 victory.
Brian Carrabes was able to add a point and increase his season point total to 18 from seven goals and 11 assists in 25 games played. Jaxson Stauber continues to lead the team between the pipes with a 5-3-0 record, 2.32 goals-against average and .918 save-percentage.
The Herd is on the road again for the first time since Nov. 7 in Omaha at the Lincoln Stars’ Ice Box for back-to-back games next Friday and Saturday.
For the Foe
