The Breakdown

The Sioux Falls Stampede (11-15-3) rematch with the Lincoln Stars (14-12-4) at the Ice Box in Lincoln, Nebraska, for the final game of a back-to-back weekend series in the Cornhusker State. This will be the fourth meeting between the pair of teams this season with the Stars holding a 3-0-1 series lead, including a 5-3 victory last night at the Ice Box. The Stars have outscored the Herd 22-14 in four combined games.

Despite last night’s victory, the Stars are still 4-4-2 in their last 10 games.

For the Herd

The Stampede will look to rebound following the 5-3 loss to the Stars last night. Three different Herd players scored in the contest, including a short-handed tally by Jared Westcott early in the second period. Austin Heidemann found the score sheet for the second game in a row for his first back-to-back, goal-scoring game this season. He had four all of last season, including a four-game span with four goals. Garrett Pinoniemi also found the score sheet with his third goal of the season and second in three games.

Goaltender Nate Reid received the start in net last for the first time since Oct. 11 after injury sidelined for a few months. He recently began backing up goaltender Jaxson Stauber following the departure of Grant Adams.

The Herd were held to zero power play opportunities in the contest but managed to kill off three man-advantage attempts by the Stars.

Ryan Sullivan continues to lead with 19 points from 10 goals and nine assists in 27 games played. Stauber leads the team between the pipes with a 7-3-0 record in 10 games played, 2.21 goals-against average and .920 save-percentage. Defenseman Chase Foley has four assists in his past three games and nine points since the beginning of December. He had four the two months prior.

Following tonight’s game the Herd will return home for a pair of back-to-back games against rival Sioux City Musketeers in a BiteSquad rivalry showdown at the PREMIER Center.
For the Foe

The Lincoln Stars rebounded with their victory last night coming off back-to-back losses to the Omaha Lancers.

Josh Groll found the back of the net for the twelfth time this season at the 1:43 mark of the first period. Groll has eight points in four games against the Stampede this season. Owen Michaels scored ten minutes later to give the Stars the 2-0 lead.

Matthew Barbolini also scored his twelfth goal of the season in his 29th game played. Spencer Smith and Brock Bremer also found the back of the net to round out the scoring.

Goaltender Jacob Mucitelli made his 14th start in net, stopping 22 of 25 shots. He is 7-4-3 on the season, with a 3.35 goals-against average and .882 save-percentage.
