SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Sioux Falls Stampede fell to the Sioux City Musketeers 5-0 Friday night at Fleet Farm Arena in Sioux City. The Musketeers tallied five unanswered goals, including four in the first period, to end the six-game winning streak for the Herd. Jaxson Stauber started the game in net but was replaced by Nate Reid at the end of the first.
The Sioux City Musketeers opened the game with four goals in the first period. The onslaught started with a goal from Sioux City leading scorer Sam Stange at the 4:39 mark of the period. A.J. Hodges followed up with a goal five minutes later for the two-goal advantage. The period ended with Ethan Harrison and defenseman Christian Jimenez scoring to double the lead and force Jaxson Stauber out of net in favor of Nate Reid.
Sioux City would not let up as Ian Malcolmson scored 1:45 into the second period to extend the lead to five. Sioux Falls outshot the Musketeers 8-to-7 in the period and failed to capitalize on three power play opportunities.
Neither team would score in the final period. Musketeer goaltender Akira Schmid earned the shutout, stopping 20 shots. The Stampede are now 18-17-3 on the season and will remain in a playoff spot with a Des Moines Buccaneers loss.
