The Sioux Falls Stampede (21-17-6) have a Leap Day contest in Dubque, Iowa, against the Dubuque Fighting Saints (31-12-1) at Mystique Ice Arena. The Fighting Saints previously traveled to Sioux Falls and took on the Stampede back on November 30. The Herd fell in 3-2 in overtime, with the Fighting Saints Scoring with a minute left in the extra session. Garrett Pinoniemi and Brian Carrabes scored for the home team with the Carrabes goal coming halfway through the third to force overtime. Nate Reid made the start in net. This will be the final two meetings between the teams with both currently on win streaks.
For the Herd
The Herd is coming off a 3-1 victory over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders last night at Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. Stampede newcomer Ian Malcolmson provided two assists on the night, while defenseman Evan Nause and forwards Brenden Olson and Pinoniemi scored in the game.
The team-leading goaltender Jaxson Stauber made the start between the pipes, stopping 28 of 29 shots on goal. Stauber leads the team with a 14-5-3 record, 2.41 goals-against average and .920 save-percentage. He is 4-0 against Eastern Conference opponents this season.
Forward Sam Stange leads the team in scoring with 24 goals and 19 assists for 43 points. Points all scored as a member of the Sioux City Musketeers. Jared Westcott trails him with 16 goals and 18 assists for 34 points in 42 games played.
For the Foe
The Dubuque Fighting Saints are 7-3-0 in their last ten games and coming off a 4-3 victory over the Sioux City Musketeers on home ice. Matthew Kopperud and Dylan Jackson put the home team up 2-0 early in the first period before Josh Nixon and AJ Hodges evened it up for the Musketeers.
Riese Gaber scored his thirty-third goal of the season almost halfway through the second period to take the lead; however, Joel Maatta was able to tally his eleventh of the season to tie the game back up at three apiece.
The Fighting Saints kept fighting as the team grabbed the final goal of the night off the stick of forward Reggie Millette. The Saints finished the game with no power play opportunities.
Aidan McCarthy made the start in net, stopping 21 of 24 shots on net. McCarthy is 11-7-0 on the season with a 2.79 goals-against average and .898 save-percentage.
The line of Riese Gaber – Ty Jackson – Dylan Jackson have a combined 67 goals and 87 assists on the season. Ty Jackson alone has 15 goals and 36 assists in 44 games for 51 points which is the highest on the team.
