SIOUX FALLS, S.D.  – The Sioux Falls Stampede have announced the addition of several players to the team roster. The team has acquired forwards Cole Sillinger and Luke Toporowski on loan from the Western Hockey League (WHL) and forwards Arlo Merritt and Sean Donaldson from the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). Former 2019 Clark Cup champion defenseman Brandon Tabakin also joined the team last week for the remainder of the season.

Cole Sillinger, a 2003-born forward from Regina, S.K., played in 48 games last season with the Medicine Hat Tigers and tallied 22 goals and 31 assists for 53 points during his rookie campaign. Sillinger earned team rookie of the year honors for his performance and is a projected first-round, A-rated talent by NHL Central Scouting’s preliminary players to watch list for the 2021 NHL Draft. He is the son of former NHL forward Mike Sillinger.

A native of Bettendorf, Iowa, forward Luke Toporowski has spent the past three seasons with the Spokane Chiefs. Last season he tallied 29 goals and provided 31 assists for 60 points over 62 games last season.

“We’re pleased to welcome Toporowski and Sillinger to Sioux Falls,” said General Manager and Head Coach Marty Murray. “They’re both players with top-level junior experience that can come in and contribute right away.”

Both Sillinger and Toporowski will return to their respective clubs at the conclusion of the 2020-21 regular season and playoffs.

In addition, the Stampede have added forwards Sean Donaldson from the Nanaimo Clippers and Arlo Merritt from the Chilliwack Chiefs of the BCHL.

Donaldson is a 19-year-old forward from Vancouver, B.C. who skated in 44 games last season, tallying 10 goals and 14 assists for 24 points. He is committed to the University of Connecticut collegiate program. Merritt, who skated in one game last weekend for the Herd and registered a shot on goal, is a Halifax, N.S. native. He tallied 21 points from 14 goals and seven assists over 48 games and added a goal and three assists during the league playoffs.

“Donaldson and Merrit are proven players with junior experience. With the long delays in play, I know they’re ready to go and eager to get on the ice.”

Due to the cancelation of the Ivy League season, former 2019 Clark Cup champion defenseman and Yale University skater Brandon Tabakin rejoined the team last week and played in both games against the Waterloo Black Hawks.

“Tabakin is a nice addition to our back end. He was a pivotal part of that Clark Cup championship team and we’re glad to have him back in Sioux Falls,” added Murray.

Sillinger will wear No. 34, Toporowski will wear No. 15 for the weekend and No. 77 for the remainder of the season, Donaldson will wear No. 26, Merrit will wear No. 18 and Tabakin will wear No. 7.

To make room for the transactions, the Herd has moved forward Jay Buchholz and defenseman Josh Phillips to the Minot Minotauros (NAHL) and forward Karter McNarland to the Bismarck Bobcats (NAHL).

All players are eligible to play in tonight’s game against the Sioux City Musketeers at the PREMIER Center. Puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
