The Breakdown

The Sioux Falls Stampede (13-12-3) travel down I-29 to take on rival Sioux City Musketeers (13-15-1) in a race for the fourth seed in the Western Conference. The season series stands at 3-2-1 in favor of Sioux Falls. The two teams will meet again on Mar. 26 and 31.

For the Herd

The Sioux Falls Stampede are coming off a 4-3 win over the Sioux City Musketeers on Friday night at the PREMIER Center. The Muskeeters scored first as Carter Loney tallied the goal to put the visiting team in front at the 7:08 mark of the first period. The only goal of the period was assisted by team leading-scorer Brian Carrabes and Ben Steeves.

The I-29 rivals followed it up with a goal 55 seconds into the second period off the stick of Bennett Schimek, assisted by Kirklan Irey, for the 2-0 lead. The Stampede were able to finally get on the board after a one-time bast from forward Sam Rhodes at 12:36 of the second period. Defenseman Dante Fantauzzi assisted on the player that put the Herd down one heading into the third period.

The momentum carried over to the third period as the home side tallied three unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead. Defenseman Brandon Chabrier scored his second of the season at 7:20 in the third, Luke Toporowski scored at 8:56 on the power play and Michael Citara put a stamp on the game at 14:50. Carrabes was able to draw within one with the goaltender pulled at 17:39, but it would not be enough for the visitors.

Citara continues to lead the team in points with 12 goals and 14 assists for 26, while Garrett Pinoniemi trails him by two from five goals and 19 assists. Sillinger has 15 points from nine goals and eight assists in ten games played. Burnham leads the goaltenders with a 5-5-2 record, 2.96 GAA and .904 SV%.

For the Foe

The Sioux City Musketeers are coming off a 3-1 victory over the Lincoln Stars last night at the Ice Box. The Stars collected the first goal of the game at the 6:59 mark of the first period, but it was all Sioux City the rest of the way. The Musketeers tallied two goals in the second period, one from Tabor Heaslip at 8:21 and Ethan Edwards at 19:54. Matteo Costantini finished the scoring off with a goal halfway through the third period.

Akira Schmid made the start in net and is now 7-9-0 on the season with a 2.38 GAA and .903 SV%.

Carrabes leads the team in points with 23 from ten goals and 13 assists in 25 games played.
