The Sioux Falls Stampede (13-13-3) return to the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center to take on the Lincoln Stars (9-15-1). The season series stands at 1-1-0 with the two teams set to meet March 16 at the PREMIER Center and three more times to close out the season. The Herd last defeated the Stars on January 29 by a final score of 10-4.
For the Herd
The Sioux Falls Stampede are coming off tough 4-2 loss to the Sioux City Musketeers last night at the Tyson Events Center. The Musketeers were able to get on the board first with a goal from Brian Carrabes at the 16:25 mark of the first period. The Herd was able to respond with a goal from Luke Toporowski on the power play from Garrett Pinoniemi a minute later.
Both teams looked sluggish entering the second period, but it was the Musketeers grabbing the only goal of the period with thirty-five seconds remaining. Matteo Costantini was able to bat a puck out of the air and into the back of the net on the power play for the 2-1 lead.
Christian Jimenez made it 3-1 for the home team at the 2:46 point of the third period, assisted by Chase Bradley. Pinoniemi was able to grab a consolation goal at 14:05 of the period with the assist going to Cole Sillinger. Former Stampede alternate captain Brenden Olson scored a short-handed, empty-net goal to close out the game.
Michael Citara continues to lead the team in points with 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points, while Garrett Pinoniemi has six goals and 20 assists for 26 points. Sillinger has 15 points from nine goals and six assists in nine games played. Grannan leads the goaltenders with a 7-7-1 record, 3.23 GAA and .888 SV%.
For the Foe
The Lincoln Stars also recently took a 3-1 loss to the Sioux City Musketeers on Saturday night. Star’s forward James Stefan scored to open the game, but the Musketeers tallied three straight goals for the win. Ryan Oullette made the start in net for the Stars and leads the team in goaltending with a 7-13-1 record, 3.45 GAA and .883 save-percentage.
Zach Urdahl leads the team in scoring with 14 goals and eight assists for 22 points in 25 games. The Stars are 4-6-0 in their last ten games and on a two-game losing streak.
