Special teams struggle in 6-2 loss at Des Moines

Herd allows three power play goals in defeat

Des Moines, Iowa – The Sioux Falls Stampede dropped a 6-2 decision to the Des Moines Buccaneers Friday night at Buccaneer Arena. Luke Toporowski and Cole Sillinger scored, while Noah Grannan saved 24 of 29 shots on net.

The Des Moines Buccaneers tallied the opening goal of the game at the 12:40 mark of the first period on the power play. Sam Renlund scored the goal with the assists going to Alex Laferriere and Matt Choupani. The Stampede answered back roughly two minutes later with a goal from Luke Toporowski from Brent Johnson and Garrett Pinoniemi also on the power play.

The game quickly turned for the worst 4:49 into the second period with another power play goal from Zakary Karpa, assisted by Zach Faremouth and Renlund. Laferriere finished off the period with yet another power play goal for the 3-1 lead.

A small jolt from Cole Sillinger 42 seconds into the third period brough the game within one but was silenced as Des Moines scored three consecutive goals, including an empty-net goal.
