The Sioux Falls Stampede (16-20-3) host the Lincoln Stars (12-23-2) at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center Tuesday night. The players will be wearing specialty St. Patrick’s Day themed jerseys to be auctioned off online to support the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society. Fans can place bids by following (www.dashapp.io/auctions/siouxfallsstampede ) The Stars last defeated the Stampede 6-2 at the Ice Box on Thursday, March 11.
For the Herd
The Stampede are coming off being swept by the Des Moines Buccaneers at the PREMIER Center, including a 5-4 shootout loss on Saturday night.
The Buccaneers opened the scoring for the second straight night with a goal from Paul Davey at 1:33 of the first period. Tyler Haskins responded with a goal two minutes later on a rebounded shot off the chest of goaltender Remington Keopple. Dan Russell and Will Schimek assisted on the goal.
Defenseman Nate Schweitzer gave the Herd the lead 9:55 into the second period. Haskins found Schweitzer in the slot off a faceoff and tallied his fourth goal of the season. Alex Laferriere scored on a breakaway three minutes. He beat goaltender Noah Grannan for his eighteenth of the season.
The third period continued the back-and-forth battle as Dan Russell scored at 5:44 of the period for the 3-2 lead. However, Scout Truman responded for the Buccaneers at 6:57 to tie the game back up. Laferriere gave Des Moines the lead with seven minutes left in regulation on the power play, but Haskins responded to tie the game at four on a nice backdoor feed from Sean Donaldson.
Paul Davey, Tanner Latsch and Zach Urdahl all scored in the shootout following the scoreless overtime session. Cole Sillinger and Russell scored for the Stampede.
Sillinger has taken the reigns as the leading scorer with 16 goals and 15 assists in 20 games played for 31 points. Trent Burnham leads the team between the pipes with a 7-8-2 record, 3.35 GAA and .893 SV%.
For the Foe
The Lincoln Stars are coming off a weekend split with the Waterloo Black Hawks. The Stars defeated the Black Hawks 7-3 on Friday night, but suffered a 6-2 defeat on Saturday.
The Stars opened the scoring on Friday with a goal from Carter Schade, assisted by Aidan Thompson and Jack O’Leary. The Stars then proceeded to dominate the second period with three goals from Jack Horbach, Michael Mastrodomenico and Stanley Cooley. The Black Hawks earned two goals in the third, but it was all Lincoln the rest of the way with Michael LaStarza, Charles-Alexis Legault and Aidan Thompson scoring twice.
On the second night, Waterloo dominated the first period with three goals and the third with three more. The Stars mustered two goals in the second period from Horbach and James Stefan.
Goaltender Ryan Oullette started both games and is 10-20-2 on the season with a 3.48 GAA and .885 SV%.Zach Urdahl leads the team with 14 goals and eight assists for 22 points in 28 games.
