Third Period Upsets Herd Again, Lose 7-4 to Tri-City

Stampede take tie into third period for second straight night

KEARNEY, Neb. – The Sioux Falls Stampede took a three-all tie game into the third period for the second straight night and came up empty handed as the Tri-City Storm won 7-4 at the Viaero Center Saturday Night. Michael Citara, Cole Sillinger and Daniel Russell scored for the Herd, while Noah Grannan made the start in net.

The Tri-City Storm opened the game with a goal from Adam Klapka at 5:18 of the first period. Michael Citara responded for Sioux Falls at 10:05 on the power play after a shot deflected up and over goaltender Todd Scott into the back of the net.

Storm forward Carter Mazur collected the next two of the game 35 seconds and 2:06 into the second period for the 3-1 lead. Citara again responded on a beautiful back-door pass from Garrett Pinoniemi on a two-on-one breakaway at 9:56 of the period. Cole Sillinger and Brent Johnson connected to tie the game at three at 12:07 of the third period.

For the second straight night, the Storm scored to open the third period with goals from Cole O’Hara and Matthew Knies at 7:36 and 8:45, respectively. Daniel Russell scored his twelfth of the season at 15:20 to breathe some life into the Stampede. As time ran out in regulation, with the goaltender pulled, Hunter Strand and goaltender Scott tallied empty-net goals for the 7-4 victory.
