Season kicks off at USHL Fall Classic

The Sioux Falls Stampede open the 2021-22 regular season this weekend at the USHL Fall Classic in Pittsburgh. All 16 USHL teams are participating in the Fall Classic which returns after a year off due to the pandemic. Games started Thursday and run through Sunday at the Pittsburgh Penguins practice facility. The Stampede will face their only Eastern Conference teams of the season when they square off against Muskegon and Chicago.

The Stampede open the regular season on Saturday at 11 AM when they face the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Fans can catch the game live on HockeyTV beginning just before 11 AM. The Herd last faced Muskegon in 2019 when the Lumberjacks swept a pair of games from the Herd at the PREMIER Center.

On Sunday, the Stampede will close out Fall Classic play when they square off against the defending Clark Cup champion Chicago Steel at 4 PM. Fans can also view that game on HockeyTV. Sioux Falls went 2-2-0 in pre-season play, including shootout wins over Omaha and Fargo. Garrett Pinoniemi and Sam Harris led the way with two goals and an assist in exhibition play. Michael Sochan had an impressive preseason going 2-0-0 with a 1.39 GAA and .946 save percentage.

The Stampede return ten players from last year’s team and several key newcomers including goaltender Isak Posch from Sweden, forwards Sam Harris, Adam Zlnka along with defenseman Seth Bernard-Docker, Arizona draft pick Cal Thomas and Sioux Falls native Easton Zueger.
