Sioux City, IA – In their sixth game in nine days, the Sioux Falls Stampede did not have enough gas to rally back at the Tyson Events Center Saturday night, falling 5-2 to the Sioux City Musketeers. Sam Harris and Maddox Fleming each tallied a goal for the Herd, while netminder Isak Posch stopped 31 of 36 shots on net.
The Stampede didn’t have the start they were looking for, allowing two unanswered Sioux City goals in the first period. They would begin to improve in the second, with Sam Harris getting the Herd on the board at 1:54 in the period, coming into the slot and backhanding a bouncing pass over the Sioux City netminder for his 12th goal of the season to make it a 2-1 game. Sioux City’s Nick Pierre would answer back at 5:45, and Dylan James would add another tally, a power play goal, to give the Musketeers a 4-1 lead at 15:47 in the period. Maddox Fleming netted his eighth goal of the year and a power play goal at 17:32, delivering a one-timer from the left circle off a pass from Austen May to bring to Herd within two. Both teams had ten shots on net in the first period while Sioux City outshot Sioux Falls 10-7 in the second.
The Herd’s rally would fall short, unable to produce any goals in the third period while allowing another Sioux City power play goal, ultimately dropping the contest 5-2. Sioux Falls was outshot 16-7 in the period and 36-24 in the game. They went 1-for-5 on the power play and 4-for-6 on the penalty kill.
