Kearney, NE – Despite a strong first two periods, the Sioux Falls Stampede were blanked by the Tri-City Storm 4-0 Friday Night at the Viaero Center. It was a close battle through the first 40 minutes, but the Herd gave up three goals in the final frame and were not able to rally back. Netminder Isak Posch put up a solid effort in net, stopping 32 of 36 shots faced.

Through two periods, the Stampede were outshot 23-11 by the Storm but only trailed by a score of 1-0 with the help of some excellent saves from the Sioux Falls netminder. Things began to unravel in the third, as the Herd’s reoccurring theme of allowing an early goal played out just 30 seconds into the period to give the Storm a 2-0 lead. Tri-City’s Mitchell Miller then tallied his second of the night less than eight minutes later for his 32nd goal of the season, which has him leading all defensemen in the league and also breaking a USHL record for goals in a single season by a defenseman. Sioux Falls were unable to find the back of the net on the man advantage, with all three attempts in the third coming up short. The Stampede’s penalty kill struggled throughout the night, as well, allowing the Storm to score their third power play goal at 12:00 in the period to make it a 4-0 game.

Tri-City outshot Sioux Falls 13-6 in the third period and 36-17 in the game. The Storm went 3-for-5 on the power play while the Stampede were 0-for-5.

The Stampede face Tri-City again tomorrow night at 7:05 PM in Kearney, then head to Sioux City on Sunday for a 3:05 PM start. Fans can tune into KELO News Talk 1320-AM, 105.1-FM, 107.9-FM, and KELO.com, or stream the action on HockeyTV.
