Herd finish perfect 6-0-0 against Des Moines

Sioux Falls, SD – The Sioux Falls Stampede had another huge night at the PREMIER Center on Wednesday, putting up seven goals against the Des Moines Buccaneers to take a 7-2 win. With the win, the Herd finished their season series with the Bucs a perfect 6-0-0.  

Daniel Russell led the Stampede with two goals and one assist, while Blake Humphrey also tallied two goals. Sam Harris and Karsen Dorwart netted a goal and an assist each while netminder Isak Posch stopped 17 of 19 shots between the pipes. The Herd posted a season high shot total of 46, outshooting the Bucs 46-19.

Though the Bucs would tally the first goal of the night at 3:23, the Herd would get rolling at 6:33 with a snipe from Blake Humphrey right under the crossbar. The Stampede would take the lead at 13:37 when Karsen Dorwart knocked his own rebound into the net for his ninth goal of the season. Sioux Falls outshot Des Moines 15-11 in the period.

The Buccaneers tallied the equalizer just 57 seconds into the second, and it would be the only goal scored in that period with the Herd outshooting Des Moines 19-3.

The third period is when the flood gates opened for the Stampede. At just 1:11 into the period, Daniel Russell gave the Herd the lead again, taking a bouncing puck in the slot and firing it past the Des Moines netminder. He would score again at 5:35 in the period, his 21st of the year, backhanding the puck right through the five-hole on the goaltender’s doorstep. With the assists on Russell’s second goal, Karsen Dorwart now has six points in the last seven games while Michael LaStarza has eight.

The Herd’s scoring didn’t stop there, as Blake Humphrey went on to tally his second of the night and tenth of the season at 6:36 when he hammered in a juicy rebound. Sam Harris tallied the only power play goal of the night less than two minutes later, wrapping the puck around the Des Moines net and stuffing it home to make it 6-2. With the assist on Harris’ goal, Maddox Fleming has seven points in the last four games. Jack Reimann would net the final goal of the night at 13:04, charging to the net and backhanding the puck top-shelf for his seventh of the year.

Sioux Falls outshot Des Moines 12-5 in the third period and 46-19 in the game, a season-high for shots in a game for the Stampede.

The victory increased Sioux Falls’ lead over Des Moines in the standings. The Stampede sit in seventh place in the Western Conference at 44 points on the season, while the Buccaneers are eighth with 41 points.

The Stampede will visit Fargo on Friday night before returning to host the Force at the PREMIER Center for Take My Jersey Night on Saturday.
