Three games will be played Sunday morning at Ridder Arena before the All-Star teams are selected. The teams played two, 30-minute (running clock) halves. Here is a quick recap of what took place...
In the first game of the morning session, Team Red topped Team Gold, 5-4. Phillip Boge's (Mounds View HS) blast from the high slot with 35 seconds left broke a 4-4 tie to give Team Red the victory.
Sean Murphy (Traverse City) scored twice in the first half for Team Gold while Roman Pfennings (Mannheim DNL) and Dylan Steman (Maple Grove HS) scored for Team Red.
In the second half, Team Gold took a 3-2 lead when Michael Sabatini (Detorit Honeybaked) found the back of the net. Team Gold made it 4-2 less than two minutes later when Mitch Huges (Stampede) wristed a shot into the net. Team Red responded just 30 seconds later when Bryan Basilico (Detroit Honeybaked) took the puck inside the left circle and wristed a shot into the upper right hand corner of the net to make it a 4-3 game. Dyaln Steman (Maple Grove HS) tallied his second of the night with 11:55 remaining when he slipped the puck just past the goaltender to make it 4-4. It remained that way until just 35 seconds left in regulation when Boge blasted a shot into the back of the net.
In the second game of the morning session, Team Blue topped Team White, 4-2. All the scoring took place in the first half.
Team White jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just seconds in on a goal from Filip Starzynski (Bismarck Bobcats). Team Blue responded two minuts later when Ryan Siiro (Dubuque) took the puck out of the right wing corner and came across the slot where he backhanded a shot into the back of the net to make it a 1-1 game. Team White regained the lead moments later when Reid Sturos (Alexandria Blizzard) scored on his own rebound to make it a 2-1 game. Four minutes later, the Team Blue tied it up when Austin Ho (L.A. Jr. Kings) blasted a shot from the left point into the back of the net. Team Blue would take their first lead of the night with 16:20 remaining in the half when Kyle Schemp (Traverse City) took the puck through the high slot before wristing a shot into the upper left hand corner of the net to make it a 3-2 lead for Team Blue. The final goal came with 9:52 remaining in the period when Mitch Snyder (Colorado Rampage U18) beat the goaltender five-hole and Team Blue skated into the locker room with a 4-2 lead.
In the second half, neither team would score and Team Blue held on for the 4-2 victory.
In the final game of the morning session, Team Navy defeated Team Green, 3-2 in a shootout. Kent Sherrer (Stampede) all the goals for Team Green, two in regulation and one in the shootout.
The morning session is now complete. The rosters will be trimmed. There will be a "Young Guns" session at 4 PM today and then the first All-Star Game will take place at 6:45 PM.
