Herd face Saints in battle for Anderson Cup

The Stampede face the Fighting Saints for the second and final time this season. The Herd topped the Saints, 5-4 back on November 17th in Sioux Falls. In that game, Sioux Falls jumped out to a 4-0 first period lead and hung on to top the Saints in what was just their second regulation win of the season at that point. The Saints lead the Stampede by five points in the race for the Anderson Cup which is given to the team with the best overall record in the league during the regular season.

Notes on the game:

·         The Stampede have won five of their last six games heading into tonight.

·         Charlie Lindgren has made 12 straight starts in goal.

·         Lindgren has 26 wins on the season, second most in franchise history in one season. He is just five wins shy of the all-time record of 31 set by David Bowen back during the 1999-2000 inaugural season.  

·         The Saints have won two straight games after losing three straight. Dubuque is 10-3-0 in their last 13 games.

·         Mike Szmatula ranks fourth in the USHL in scoring with 62 points in 48 games for Dubuque. Peter Queneville has 56 points in 48 games and ranks 6th in the league.

·         The Stampede are 9-2-0 against the East this year while Dubuque is 9-5-1 against the Western Conference.

·         The Saints have allowed the fewest goals in the USHL at 111. Sioux Falls has allowed the third fewest of 143.

·         Whoever is leading after two periods tonight is likely to win the game. The Saints are 31-0-1 when leading after two periods while the Herd are 25-0-1.

·         Dubuque is 21-2-0 at home this season, the best home record in the USHL.
