Herd begin three game weekend on home ice

TONIGHT’S GAME:   The Stampede square off against the Dubuque Fighting Saints for the second and final time this season. The Fighting Saints downed the Stampede 5-3 back on November 24th in Sioux Falls. The Herd went 1-1-0 against the Saints last season.

STAMPEDE UPDATE:  The Herd have collected points in three consecutive games after a 5-1 thumping of the Sioux City Musketeers last Saturday night in Sioux City. It marked the first regulation loss for the Musketeers in 12 games. Five different players tallied goals for the Herd while Jaxson Stauber stopped 32 of 33 shots to earn the victory in goal. The Herd are 6-5-1 on the road this season.

After earning just two wins all of November, the Stampede are 2-0-1 to start the month of December. Tonight begins a string of three home games in three nights at the PREMIER Center where the Herd will play 10 of their next 12 games. After starting the season 4-0-0 on home ice, the Herd have gone 0-2-1 in their last three home contests.

Artem Ivanyuzhenkov, Jami Krannila and Cade Borchardt all have 15 points for the Stampede. The Herd recently added goaltender Alec Calvaruso, a native of Livonia, MI. The 6-foot-2, 181-pound netminder comes from Colorado College. Prior to playing college hockey, Calvaruso played with Lone Star Brahmas of the NAHL in 2016-17 where he posted a 2.13 GAA and a .906 save percentage.

FIGHTING SAINTS UPDATE: The Saints are coming off a big weekend in which they took 3 of a possible 4 points from the top team in the league in Muskegon. Dubuque is 3-1-1 in their last five games to move into the top half of the Eastern Conference.

The Saints are led by Matias Maccelli who ranks in the top ten in the USHL in scoring with 27 points (12g, 15a) in 23 games. Riese Gaber tallied two goals against the Stampede on November 24th and has 20 points on the season. Matthew Thiessen has seen the majority of time in between the pipes and holds a 3.15 GAA and a .889 save percentage on the season.   

UP NEXT:  The Stampede open a weekend series against the Green Bay Gamblers tomorrow night. It is also Innovative Office Solutions night. Puck drop is 7:05 PM. Saturday is Ugly Sweater Night with The Salvation Army. Players will be wearing ugly sweater themed jerseys that will be available through a silent auction to benefit The Salvation Army.
