Herd takes on rival Sioux City on Hockey Day SD

TONIGHT’S GAME:  The Stampede face off with border rival Sioux City for the fourth time this season. Sioux Falls defeated Sioux City 5-1 back on Dec. 8. After tonight, these two teams will square off four more times this season with the next meeting being at on the road Feb. 22. 

STAMPEDE UPDATE:  The Sioux Falls Stampede defeated the Omaha Lancers 4-1 last night at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center for their eighteenth win of the season, moving into fourth place in the Western Conference. Artem Ivanyuzhenkov got the scoring underway with a snipe off the face-off from the right circle midway through the first period. Brian Chambers brought the score to 2-0 before the Lancers struck back to bring it back within one. The Herd scored twice more with goals from Jami Krannila and Ryan Johnson to take home the victory. 

SIOUX CITY UPDATE: The Musketeers are coming off a tough overtime defeat against the Fargo Force last night at the SCHEELS Arena in Fargo. The Force scored early and the first and held the 1-0 lead for the majority of the game, but a goal from Ian Malcolmson brought it even with 7:54 left in the third period. The Force scored 1:24 into overtime for the victory. 

The Musketeers are led by Martin Pospisil who is ranked ninth in league scoring with 36 points on 11 goals and 25 assists. The Musketeers are without their leading goal scorer Bobby Brink who has been placed on injured reserve following an injury and was ranked thirteenth in league in scoring with 33 points in 19 games. 

HOCKEY DAY SD: Fans are encouraged to use the #HOCKEYDAYSD throughout the day across the state to be recognized. Those attending the game tonight in Sioux Falls share on social media may have the chance to win prizes throughout the game. Fans are also encouraged to enjoy a post-game skating party following the game with players available for autographs on and off the ice. No skate rentals are available. 

During the game on Saturday fans can take advantage of a hockey themed photo booth in the main concourse as well as a scavenger hunt throughout the PREMIER Center.

UP NEXT:  The Stampede complete their six-game homestand with a rare Wednesday night tilt against the Fargo Force at 7:05 p.m. The Herd then travels up to Fargo for back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday.
