TONIGHT’S GAME:   The Stampede face the Chicago Steel for the first time this season. These two teams will meet again on March 8th in Chicago. Last year, the Stampede went 1-1-0 against the Steel.

STAMPEDE UPDATE:  The Stampede enter tonight’s contest winners of their last six straight home games and 11 of their last 12 at the PREMIER Center. Last weekend, the Herd earned home wins over Central Illinois and Lincoln. On Thursday, the Herd topped the Flying Aces 6-4 and on Friday, the Herd rolled over Lincoln 5-2 to move into a tie for third place in the Western Conference.

Overall, the Herd are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games and an impressive 16-3-2 since December 1st. The Herd are averaging 4.19 goals per-game during this recent stretch and now rank fifth in the league with 140 goals on the season.

The Stampede do not have a player in the top 20 in the USHL in scoring, but have 10 players who have tallied 20 or more points this season. Jami Krannila leads the team with 32 points (13g, 19a) while Brian Chambers has 31 points and Artem Ivanyuzhenkov has 30 points on the season. Alec Calvaruso is 11-2-0 with a 2.61 GAA and a .889 save percentage in between the pipes.

JADEN SHIELDS: The Stampede announced earlier this week they acquired defenseman Jaden Shields from the Omaha Lancers for a couple draft picks. Shields spent the majority of the season with the Lancers, but started the season in Chicago where he appeared in seven games with the Steel. He will wear #3 tonight.

STEEL UPDATE: As hot as the Stampede have been, the Steel have been just as hot. Chicago enters tonight having won eight of their last nine games and sit in second place in the Eastern Conference. The Steel saw their seven game winning streak come to an end last Friday in a 5-4 loss to Team USA, but bounced back with a 4-0 victory over Youngstown on Saturday.

The Steel are led by Nick Abruzzese who is tied for the league lead in total points with 49 (22g, 27a). Matteo Pietoniro ranks second with 33 points (14g, 19a) while Josiah Slavin has been a nice addition to the lineup, chipping in five points (3g, 2a) in just four games since being acquired by the Steel from Lincoln. The Steel rank third in the USHL in scoring, averaging 3.85 goals per-game. In goal, Justin Robbins is 18-8-1 with a 3.00 GAA and a .888 save percentage.

UP NEXT:  The Stampede hit the road for Waterloo tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. Next weekend, the Herd will play at Team USA on Friday and then at Muskegon on Saturday and Sunday. The Herd return home on Saturday, February 23rd for the biggest game of the year, the 12th annual Sioux Nation Pet Clinic Wiener Dog Races! 40 dachshunds will compete on ice, but only one will be crowned as champion. Dakota Dachshund Rescue will be on hand with lovable, adoptable dogs inside the main concourse.
