TONIGHT’S GAME:   The Stampede face the Muskegon Lumberjacks for the first of two games this weekend. These two teams will not meet this year in Sioux Falls. Last season, the Herd swept the Lumberjacks at the PREMIER Center in their only meetings.

STAMPEDE UPDATE:  The Stampede saw their five-game winning streak come to an end last night in a 4-1 loss to the U.S. Under-18 Development program in Plymouth. The Herd fell behind 2-0 in the first period before Carl Berglund got the Herd on the board with a goal in the second. Team USA responded with a goal of their own later in the period and scored a power play goal in the third to put the game away. Sioux Falls out chanced and out shot the Team USA 30-28, but couldn’t get the puck to bounce their way.

Despite the loss, the Herd are still in third place in the Western Conference and 18-4-2 since December 1st. Last night marked the first time since December 18th the Herd failed to score more than one goal in a game. The Herd are now 8-3-0 against Eastern Conference teams this season.

LUMBERJACKS UPDATE: Muskegon is coming off a tough 6-1 loss last night in Chicago against the Steel. The Lumberjacks allowed three goals in the second period alone and fell for the second time in their last four games. Despite the loss, Muskegon still holds an eight point lead over Chicago for first place in the Eastern Conference.

The Lumberjacks are led by forward Egor Afanasyev who has 44 points (20g, 24a) while Alex Yakovenko and Bobby Lynch each have 43 points on the season. Brandon Bussi is 25-8-3 with a 2.46 GAA and a .917 save percentage in goal this season.

The Lumberjacks have the second best penalty kill in the league at 85.6% and are the highest offensive scoring team in the league, averaging 4.00 goals per-game. They rank second in goals-against at 2.60 per-game.
