TONIGHT’S GAME:   The Stampede face the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the final game of their weekend series. Muskegon took the opener last night, 5-3 at L.C. Walker Arena. After tonight these two teams will not meet again this season.

LAST NIGHT:  The Lumberjacks scored early in the first, second and third periods and topped the Stampede 5-3 in the opening game of the series. Sioux Falls got goals from Max Crozier, Brian Chambers and Blake Bride, but couldn’t slow down the league’s stop scoring offense.

Artem Ivanyuzhenkov was flagged for a five-minute major early in the game and showed the door, putting the Stampede shorthanded and the Lumberjacks took advantage to take a 2-0 lead in the first. Max Crozier got the Herd on the board at 11:51 to bring the Herd back into the game and appeared to tie the game later in the period on a power play goal, but that goal was waved off after review for being kicked in.

The Lumberjacks stole to momentum and tallied three unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead before the Stampede got back into the hockey game with two goals in the third.

STAMPEDE UPDATE: The Herd have loss back-to-back games for the first time since the end of November. Sioux Falls enters tonight just four points back of second place Waterloo with two games in hand and have a three-point lead on fourth place Des Moines.

LUMBERJACKS UPDATE: Muskegon showed why they sit atop the Eastern Conference and have won 31 games this season. They enter today averaging 3.95 goals per-game, second best in the USHL. They also rank second in goals-against, allowing 2.68 per-game. The Lumberjacks are a tough team to beat when they get the early lead. Muskegon is 23-2-0 when scoring first and 21-2-1 when leading after one period this season.

UP NEXT:  The Stampede close out their five-game road swing on Friday in Sioux City at 7:05 PM. Fans can catch the game live on KELO News Talk 1320-AM, 105.1-FM, 107.9-FM and KELO.com starting at 6:40 PM with the Splash City pre-game show.
